All the novel writers here! I just don't have the staying power, although I've been a 'writer' as far back as I can remember. I've started a couple of them, then decided I'd better concentrate on short stories so something would get finished. Did those quite happily, but have concentrated on poetry in later years, shorter and shorter forms as I get older!
So now it's haiku, tanka, and the like, the which I developed an interest in from the now defunct but wonderful Yellow Moon publication. Hope to find a few poets here!
I remember reading a form of poetry used to describe a person or thing in six short lines. The examples were very clever. I'll track down where I read it and post the information here for any writers that might like to give it a go.
1st line: one word (noun) a title or name of subject
2nd line: two words (adjectives) describing the title
3rd line: three words (verbs) describing action related to the title
4th line: four words describing a feeling about the title, a complete sentnce
5th line: one word referring back to the title of the poem
Or, if you rather:
1st line: one word that represents you
2nd line: two words that describe you
3rd line: three words that show you
4th line: two words that express you
There you have it. After you have fun creating your cinquain, share it with us.
