ODE TO A SAUSAGE
Oh Sausage that in times long past, when you
in rich tomato gravy did recline
and show contempt for every roast or stew,
I have loved you with a love divine.
Your simplicity was notable and worthy,
your gracious bearing a point to emulate.
You added nought to any stout man's girth, he
kept in trim through labour, dawn till late.
Now a la mode we find you, Snag Supreme
parboiled, bacon-flavoured, or with sage;
low fat, chicken filled, a gourmet's dream,
a sausage for all seasons, every age.
Yet still I buy the form our fathers knew.
Ubiquitous greasy Snag, I worship you.
